ABSTRACT:
4 pages in length. Democracy has been the driving force behind America's social, political and economic pursuits as a nation since the United States adopted its Constitution; since that time, the concept has been staunchly upheld by a country whose inhabitants believe there is no other way in which a civilized society can exist. When capitalism became a mainstay around the time of the Industrial Revolution, the inextricable relationship between free enterprise and democratic principles was joined forever. To understanding the tenets of capitalism is to understand the fundamental components of what it means to live in a nation whose Constitution endorses unfettered life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
